What's a Slipped Disc?

After someone is injured in an auto accident, they may have been given a diagnosis of a "slipped disc". A slipped disc is a layperson's term used to describe a general disorder of the vertebral disc. The disc is the gapper in between the bone of the spine. It's purpose is to maintain the hole where the nerve exits and goes to other parts of your body. When there is alteration of the disc, the hole where the nerve exits will get smaller making impingement more likely. The term slipped disc is not very helpful clinically. The terms that are more important in a medicolegal environment are disc bulge and disc herniation. A disc bulge is a chronic degenerative condition while a disc herniation is traumatic. Both are important in a auto accident. By having a complete exam, x-rays and MRI we can age date a bulge and herniation to determine if the accident was cause of the disc disorder. It is important to have these tests performed if you are experiencing numbness and tingling in the arms or legs, headaches, neck pain, mid, and low back pain. Not all disc bulges and herniations will cause radiating symptoms that is why you need to go to a trauma qualified chiropractor. Correlating causality to bodily injury, and bodily injury to functional loss is an important aspect to have in a doctor's office if you are looking to win a car accident case. If you have been told you had a slipped disc, disc bulge, disc herniation and are experiencing symptoms like neck pain, mid-back pain, low back pain, headaches, ringing in the ears, blurred vision, concussions, shoulder pain, knee pain and are in the Chicagoland area like: Chicago, Elmhurst, Berkeley, Bellwood, Hillside, Northlake, Melrose Park, Bensenville, Downers Grove, Villa Park, Lombard, Oak Brook and Westchester, contact Auto Accident Pain Relief Center of Illinois 24/7 at 800-862-5914.
